How to Make a 3.5 Disk Boot in Win98 SE
- 1). Start your computer and allow Windows to load. Insert a blank floppy disk into the computer after it boots.
- 2). Browse to the BootDisk.com collection of boot disks using the link in the "Resources" section of this article. Download the Win98 SE boot disk image. The name of the file will be "boot98se.exe."
- 3). Run "boot98se.exe," and you will be asked to click "OK" when a floppy drive is prepared. Click "OK." After the disk is created, the program will close automatically.
- 4). Restart your computer with the boot disk inserted. It should boot from the floppy disk automatically. If it does not, pay attention to your computer screen when the machine is first turned on. It will display a key that must be pressed to enter the setup utility for your motherboard. Press the key, and use the setup utility to change your computer's boot order so that it boots from a floppy disk (if available) before using the hard drive.
- 5). Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to select whether you would like to start the computer with or without support for a CD/DVD drive, and hit "Enter." The computer will finish booting automatically. When the computer is finished booting, you will see an "A:" prompt. Type "C:" to switch to the hard drive.
