How to Write a Contracts Exam
- 1). Read the question several times. As you read, jot down all the issues that you spot.
- 2). Make an outline to help organize your answer. On contracts exams, it often works best to organize your answer chronologically.
- 3). Jot down some quick notes about how you will analyze the problem. You can often organize your analysis on contracts exams by breaking the problem down into offer, acceptance and consideration.
- 4). Start to write. You can use the IRAC format (issue, rule, analysis and conclusion), but devote most of your answer to analysis.
- 5). Focus on writing about the most important issues, but be sure to at least briefly mention all the issues you have spotted, even the ambiguous ones.
- 6). Use section headings to make it easier for your professor to read your answer.
