How to Write a Car Contract
- 1). Discuss the terms of the agreement with the other party. When you sell a car, expect the buyer to try to negotiate price. It's also important to disclose any mechanical problems with the vehicle. Be sure both parties agree to all terms before writing the car contract.
- 2). Write the contract. Specify everything the parties have agreed to such as price and that all mechanical work completed after the sale will be the buyer's responsibility. List any work the car currently needs. This will prevent the buyer from filing a complaint in court stating that you tried to defraud him.
- 3). Sign and date the contract. Insist on the other party's signature as well. Do this prior to money or property changing hands. If you fail to do this, the other party could refuse to sign the contract and you may be left unprotected. Make a copy; keep the original for yourself and give the copy to the other party.
