GE Dishwasher Problems
- If your dishwasher has no power and it not turning on, there are a few items to check. Make sure that the door is properly closed, because it likely contains a safety feature that will not allow it to operate unless the latch is in position. Slide the dishwasher out of the cabinet to check the power cord to make sure it is inserted snugly into the wall socket behind the dishwasher. Check the electrical fuses in your fuse box to make sure that a fuse is not faulty.
- A sign that your heating element is not working properly is that the dishes will not dry during the dry cycle. This also means that your dishes are not sanitized as they should be. You may also notice soap residue on the dishes due to the detergent not melting correctly because it is not hot enough. Open the dishwasher during a cycle to see if steam comes out. If it does not, then your heating element is faulty.
- Water releases into the dishwasher through the water line by a water inlet valve and stops adding water by a float valve rising in the bottom of the dishwasher tub. If there is no water entering the dishwasher, check the water line to make sure it does not have a kink. If this does not solve the problem, then either the float valve is stuck due to too much detergent being used and can be raised to allow water flow. If this does not help, then the water inlet valve is malfunctioning.
- Excess water in the bottom of the dishwasher after a cycle points to the drain being stopped up. This will happen when your kitchen drain is plugged, because the dishwasher drain is tied into it. If the sink is draining as it should, then check the screen over the drain in the back of the dishwasher tub after clearing excess water. You can also use drain cleaner occasionally to ensure proper working of the drain.
- The most common leaking problem with a GE dishwasher happens when the door seal on the inside fails due to age and heat from operation. Examine the seal and look for cracks that appear as dry rot. Leaks on a dishwasher that has just been installed are usually because the water connection or drain line is not fastened tight enough. Pull the dishwasher out of the cabinet to check. While it is operating, see where the leaks are to help you decide which part is leaking.
