How to Lace Fancy Soccer Cleats
- 1). Pull on soccer socks and make sure the part of the sock covering your foot is comfortable and crease-free before putting your feet inside the cleats. Loosen up the cleat laces, as required.
- 2). Pull both of the laces upward toward your face until the cleat has formed a tight seal around your foot. Tie the laces as you would with any regular pair of shoes, ensuring the cleat remains tight as you are tying your knot. Decide between single and double-knotting your laces, as this is entirely whatever feels most secure and comfortable.
- 3). Lay the tongue of the boot, if applicable, over the top of the knot that you have tied with your laces. Your aim here is to cover over as much of the knot and the looped laces as possible, which is achieved more easily with many types of fancy cleats that have what Adidas describes as asymmetrical loop lacing. You fold back an extra long tongue so that it covers the laces to provide a smooth area with which you can strike the ball cleanly. This is done simply by fastening a small elastic loop that is attached to the lower part tongue around the studs near the toes.
- 4). Tuck the loops of the knotted laces down the inside of your cleat in between your foot and the inner of the cleat, if your cleats do not have a floppy tongue that you can pull over the knot. Make your shoes top surface as flat and undisturbed as possible, as this will help you strike the ball more cleanly and truly. This reduces the possibility of the ball hitting a knot in your laces when you strike it, and gives you more control and accuracy with shots and passes.
