How to Replace Windows Task Manager
- 1). Process Explorer is a free application developed by Sysinternals, which has since been absorbed by Microsoft. This is an application that provides a significant improvement over the standard Task Manager. Process Explorer's standard view displays all open processes in a tree format, allowing you to see which applications are running under which processes. You may opt to check digital signatures, view handles and dlls opened by each process and may even scan a process to view embedded strings. These functions give you a lot of information about what is happening on your system. Using it to replace the Task Manager is as simple as selecting "Replace Task Manager" from the "Options" menu of the application.
- 2). System Explorer is another application that really expands the reach of the original Task Manager. This program lets you see everything running, including tasks, processes, modules, services, drivers and more. You may manage your startup applications, uninstall software and even manage Internet Explorer add-ons. One of the most interesting features is a security check that lets you verify each of your running processes. Replace Task Manager with System Explorer by selecting "Replace Task Manager" from the "Options" menu of the open application.
- 3). AntiVir Task Manager is another application that expands the capabilities of the original Task Manager. AntiVir offers a free version, but the paid standard and pro versions have many more features. AntiVir---released by an antivirus software producer---is security-minded. Whether you are viewing your list of startups or your running applications and processes, each listed item will have a security risk score listed next to it. This offers a way of checking suspicious applications. AntiVir Task Manager also provides quick access to administrator tools on the system, including disk monitoring and computer management. Replacing Task Manager for this application requires a trip to the "Options" manager under the "Tools" menu.
