How to Upgrade From Windows 98 to Windows 98Se
- 1). Connect your computer to an external hard drive using a USB cable. Turn on your computer and wait for it to recognize the storage device.
- 2). Copy any software or programs that you do not want to risk losing, along with any picture, movie, and video files to the external hard drive. To do this, open your computer's file "Explorer" by pressing "Windows"+"E." You will now see the available drives on your computer and can drag the folders or files from your hard drive to the portable hard drive.
- 3). Open the disk tray on your computer and insert the Windows 98 disc; close the disc tray. Wait for the upgrade confirmation box to appear.
- 4). Click "Yes" in the confirmation box to begin upgrading your Windows 98 system to Windows 98 SE, and select the default installation menu options on the subsequent menus.
- 5). Restart your computer after the installation is complete. You will now be able to move the files you backed up on your portable hard drive back to your computer.
