On the plane, we see a brief replay of yesterday’s show as John suggests to the pilots that they dump the fuel. One of the pilots urges John not to do it, reminding him that he has a plane full of family and friends in the back. John tells Steve to give everyone the “good news” that they’ll be up in the air for a while and it’s going to get a lot colder. Steve emerges from the cockpit and announces that they have no radio, no instruments, and they’re losing cabin pressure.

Everyone starts throwing questions at once before Marlena asks John if he’s able to fly the plane. Steve tries to assure them that John seems to remember a lot about flying a plane and has two capable pilots next to him. Philip asks what he can do to help. Steve suggests pulling out some more blankets, since it will get a hell of a lot colder in there. “John, tell us the truth. Can we make it?” Marlena asks John. Shawn asks Belle to take Claire to get some cookies. Meanwhile, Hope asks John what’s going on. “All instrumentation has systematically failed from this aircraft,” he states. “Are we going to crash?” questions Marlena. “Not on my watch,” replies John. “Okay. That’s a lovely sentiment, John. But what do we do?” quips Steve. John claims he has absolutely no idea, but he’s working on it. He briefly recaps what he and the pilots tried to do, but doesn’t seem to be concerned about their present situation. Bo asks how long they can stay in the air. John predicts he can keep the plane in the air for two and a half hours, but doesn’t know how long before they freeze to death.

Philip questions what the altitude is. John reveals that it’s 32,000 feet. Bo deduces that it means not a whole lot of oxygen for the passengers. Chloe and Hope look terrified upon hearing this grim news. Steve asks how long the air will last them. John states that the air is leaking out, but can’t estimate at what rate. A calm and cool John re-enters the cockpit in an attempt to figure out another alternative. Marlena urges everyone to get bundled up.

Back in the cockpit, the pilots are asleep as John notes what a hell of a time it is for a siesta. Meanwhile, Steve cuddles close to a frightened Kayla, who is thinking about Stephanie. He tries to assure her that they’re going to walk away from this. John approaches “Blondie” and requests to speak to her up front. After he helps her into the cockpit, she questions how long the pilots have been in their present state. John says not long. Marlena checks them and notes that their pulses are very slow and they’re cool, but not hypothermic. She soon returns to the cockpit with her little black bag and reveals that the pilots have slow breathing, a slow heart rate, and their pupils are constricted. Doc checks the water bottle and discovers residue in the bottom of the bottle. They both deduce that the pilots were drugged. Marlena tells John that he’ll have to be the one who lands the plane for them, as she speculates that the pilots ingested some kind of narcotic. She could give them something to counteract the effects, but if she guesses wrong the pilots could die. John assumes that she’s not even going to try to revive the pilots. She soon reveals that she gave the pilots something to stabilize them, but they’re still unresponsive. John admits that he has no idea what his next step is. Marlena assures him that he’s never let her down, and inside him beats the heart of a hero. Marlena wonders who would sabotage the plane. John recites a mathematical calculation and believes that they may have just enough oxygen to put the plane on the ground safely.

In the cabin, Bo approaches Steve and Kayla and asks how Pop’s doing. “Why don’t you ask me?” suggests Grandpa Shawn, which elicits a chuckle from Steve and Kayla. Bo thought he was sleeping, but Grandpa Shawn claims he was just resting his eyes. Nearby, Shawn and Belle cuddle with a sleeping Claire. Philip huddles close to a shivering Chloe and tries to assure her that the pilots are going to get them down smoothly. Marlena emerges from the cockpit and announces that John may have found a way to land the plane safely. “In the water or on dry land?” shudders Chloe. Marlena says it’s on dry land, but gravely informs them that the pilots were drugged and are unconscious. She surmises that the same people who drugged the pilots also sabotaged the plane. “This was no accident,” she affirms. Chloe gets hysterical upon hearing this. “Can John land the plane?” Hope anxiously inquires. Marlena states that John may be the only hope they have. Philip mentions his experience in the military and offers to lend a hand. Marlena gives them more grave news and informs them that they’re losing oxygen and the plane is decompressing, but they do have remaining air in the oxygen masks. Just then, the oxygen masks come down. John emerges from the cockpit and gives it to them straight. “As far as I can tell we’re going to be up here until we run out of fuel,” he speculates. “And then what?” asks a frantic Chloe. “We join Colleen and Santo in the sweet hereafter,” he answers.

Sami returns to the safe house, where EJ informs her that he just put the twins to sleep. He briefly fills her in on Tony and Anna’s recent visit before he encourages her to talk about what happened with Lucas. Sami gives a very brief recap and surmises that EJ is thrilled to pieces to see Lucas going to prison. He claims he hates seeing Sami upset. A miserable Sami remarks how Lucas is her life as well as Will’s and Allie’s. EJ rehashes how Lucas threw all of it out the window. Sami admits how hard it is to see Lucas going away for a long time. “You still love him?” asks EJ. “Yes,” answers Sami, as she looks at him like he’s asking a stupid question.
