How to: Deer Fencing

33
    • 1). Determine the boundaries of the area you wish to fence in. Roughly measure the perimeter to determine the amount of fencing you will need. Mark off the trees you are going to fasten the fencing to. You will need to fasten the fencing to a tree, roughly every 20 to 25 feet. If there is no tree coverage in the area, you will need to install steel poles every 15 to 20 feet along the perimeter.

    • 2). Fasten the edge of the polycarbonate mesh deer fencing to a tree or steel pole at one end of the perimeter. Use heavy-duty ties to secure the edge of the fencing to the tree or pole. Allow 6 inches of the fencing to lie along the ground.

    • 3). Unravel the fencing along the desired perimeter, fastening the fencing to a tree or pole every 20 feet. Secure the fencing with heavy-duty ties at the desired end of the boundary.

    • 4). Drive a stake into the ground, securing the 6 inches of fencing to the ground, every 5 to 6 feet along the perimeter.

    • 5). Tie white streamers to the middle of the fencing, every 10 feet, to give the deer a visual that the fence is there. This is only necessary for the first three months and prevents the deer from accidentally running directly into the fence.
