How to Fix Windows Updates
- 1). Turn off automatic updates, and instead manually update Windows. Go to the Windows Update website, and scan your computer for necessary updates. If the site succeeds in installing your Windows updates manually, this should also fix the automatic-update function, which can now be turned on again.
- 2). If this doesn't work and your Windows updates still aren't fixed, re-register the Windows Installer program. Click the Windows Start menu, and go to Run. Type "msiexec /unreg" in the Run box, and press Enter. Then click the Start menu again and go to Run again. This time type "msiexec /regserver" in the Run box, and press Enter.
Your Windows installer should now be re-registered, and the Windows Installer and associated updates should be fixed. - 3). If the update problems persist, download software designed to help fix Windows updates issues such as Fix WU Utility v 1.0, which is a freeware program that will help fix Windows updates. Run the program, and follow the directions as prompted.
- 4). Visit the Microsoft Updates Solution Center, and search for the specific problem you are having if updates still aren't fixed. The Microsoft Updates Solutions Center provides answers to all Windows updates-related issues, as well as user forums to help solve problems related to updates.
