    • 1). Lift the Civic's hood and loosen the bolt on the negative battery cable's clamp with the 10-mm wrench. The negative battery cable is black and connects the negative battery terminal to the frame of the Honda for grounding. Lift the cable's clamp from the battery terminal and set it aside.

    • 2). Open the trunk. Pull the release levers at the top corners of the rear seats and fold the seats forward.

    • 3). Disconnect the speaker wiring harness from each of the speakers by squeezing the plastic tabs on either side of the connectors and pulling them from the speakers. Allow the wiring to hang from the rear deck.

    • 4). Disconnect the subwoofer connection, if your Civic is equipped with a factory subwoofer. Locate the sub connection on the passenger's side of the trunk. Depress the plastic release clip and pull the wiring connector from the subwoofer wiring.

    • 5). Slide into the trunk and through to the back side of the rear seat deck. Remove the two screws on the rear deck with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The screws are located at the upper corners of the back deck, near the shoulder restraints. Lift the back deck from the speaker and set it aside.

    • 6). Remove the three bolt screws around the perimeter of each speaker with an 8-mm socket and ratchet. Lift the speakers from their mounts and set them aside.

    • 7). Connect the speaker wiring harnesses to the speaker connection on both of the new speakers. Place the speakers into the mounts and replace the original screw bolts with the socket and ratchet.

    • 8). Align the rear deck and press firmly across the panel to snap it back into place. Replace the two screws with the Phillips-head screwdriver to secure the rear panel into place. Move back to the trunk area.

    • 9). Plug the speaker wiring connectors into the speaker harness on each speaker until the locking mechanisms snap into place. Reconnect the subwoofer connection, if applicable. Raise the rear seats until they lock into position. Close the trunk and return to the engine compartment.

Place the negative battery cable clamp over the negative battery terminal post. Tighten the bolt on the clamp with the wrench and close the Civic's hood.
