How to Replace the Hard Drive to My Dell XPS M1530 Laptop
- 1). Shut down the computer and disconnect any external devices, including the AC power cable.
- 2). Place the computer on a table with the bottom facing up and the front of the computer toward you. Slide the battery release latch, located just forward of the battery, to the left to unlock it. Slide the battery to the rear out of its bay.
- 3). Turn the computer over and open the display. Press the power button to discharge and remaining electricity in the computer's circuits.
- 4). Close the display and turn the computer over again. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws that hold the hard drive in its bay. The screws are arranged in a square pattern with two along the edge of the computer just below the hard drive bay and two more approximately 4 inches from the edge.
- 5). Slide the hard drive out of its bay. Remove the screw on each side of the hard drive that attaches the plastic bezel.
- 6). Remove the new hard drive from its packaging and attach the bezel to it.
- 7). Slide the drive into the bay until it's fully seated and replace the four screws. Replace the battery into its bay and turn the computer over.
