How to Defrost Upright Freezers
- 1). Remove all of the freezer contents and store them in another freezer or a cooler full of ice.
- 2). Turn the knob on the freezer's temperature control setting to the "Off" position.
- 3). Remove the bottom grille of the freezer and attach a garden hose to the hose adapter if your freezer has one. To remove the bottom grille, remove the screws securing the grille to the freezer.
- 4). Place towels on the bottom of the freezer and on the floor to catch the water as it drips.
- 5). Pour buckets of warm water into the freezer to speed the thawing process if the freezer is in a location that will not be damaged by water.
- 6). Remove the towels and replace with new towels as needed.
- 7). Remove the towels and then use a sponge to absorb any remaining water after the freezer has defrosted.
- 8). Clean the inside of the freezer, if desired, using a soft cloth and 1 tbsp. of baking soda mixed with 1 qt. of water.
- 9). Wipe the freezer dry with a dry towel to remove any remaining water.
