Windows XP

• 1). Close all running programs. You will be prompted to save your work if you haven't already.
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Start" menu button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
  
  
• 3). Click on the red button that is labeled "Turn Off Computer," and then select "Turn Off." Wait for the computer to power down.
  
  

Windows Vista

• 1). Close all running programs. You will be prompted to save your work if you haven't already.
  
  
• 2). Click on the "Start" menu button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen.
  
  
• 3). Click on the arrow that is next to the lock icon. Select "Shut Down" from the pop-up menu. Wait for the computer to power down.
