Are Stainless-Steel Refrigerators Magnetic?
- Stainless steel that falls into the American Iron and Steel Institute's Type 300 series is not magnetic. The 400 series is. Within each series there are different grades that are used for different types of needs.
- The 300 series of stainless steel is less prone to rusting. The 400 series is cheaper to manufacture and is used for inexpensive appliances or places where the highest quality is not needed.
- The Stainless Steel Information Center suggests using spray adhesives for temporarily hanging light items on a nonmagnetic refrigerator or stronger glue for long-term bonding. Both are removed with any standard adhesive remover.
