Wine Tasting Parties Are Perfect For Holiday Get Togethers!
I love a good glass of wine and I love spending time with friends and family! What better way is there to combine these two loves than with a wine tasting party? I really can not think of one! Wine tasting parties no longer have to be the fussy to do that they once were, they can be a casual and elegant way to enjoy delicious drinks, food and company.
It all started about a year ago, when a dear friend of mine asked me to accompany her to a wine tasting party at her friend's house. She informed the group of wine-loving friends had decided upon "Italy" as the theme, or country, that month. The idea is to bring a bottle of wine from the chosen country, to keep it in the bag, and to even keep it under $20 a bottle. This way the wine is in everyone's price range. I purchased a beautiful bottle of Pinot Noir from Italy and kept in the bag as directed. The reason for keeping it in the brown bag is because as everyone is tasting the wines, it is to be kept a secret as to what you are tasting and who brought which wine.
When I arrived at the party there were about 8 to 10 other guests, and also that meant 8 - 10 other bottles of wine! She had lots of Italian food for us to nibble such as: bruschetta, nuts, cheeses, meats, grapes, crackers and even pistachio cannoli! The food was incredible. After everyone had their fill of treats, we began the tasting. She also had some wonderful, soft Italian music playing which added to the ambiance.
The hostess had made out wine-tasting sheets for our scoring. Again, we kept it very casual. The sheets asked for opinions on color, aroma, and body. Basically if you can look at colors, smell, and taste you can have fun at a wine tasting party! We all took sips of the various wines and talked about the ones we liked, the ones we didn't like.
At the end of the party the bags were removed to see who brought what wine. After that any wine that was a particular favorite could be poured into the party-goers glass for more partaking. It was lovely and as the party was dwindling down everyone nibbled on the pistachio or dark chocolate cannoli.
