How to Watercolor Waves
- 1). Dip a soft-tipped paintbrush into water and squeeze it over the blue on your watercolor palette to activate the paint. If you are using liquid watercolor paint that is in a tube, squeeze a small amount on to a painting palette and mix in the water with the brush.
- 2). Glide the paintbrush across watercolor paper to outline the top line of the wave. Use smooth, graceful lines that occasionally curl up into crests then dip down again.
- 3). Add more color to the brush and paint the wave from the bottom up. As you get closer to the tips of the wave, add more water to the brush so that the color becomes lighter as it reaches the crest, which should be left white. While the brush should always be wet, it should never be to the point where it is dripping.
- 4). Allow the waves to dry. Dip the brush into some fresh blue paint and use the tip to re-outline the wave and add detail.
