Bearded Dragon Cage: Learn How to Set It Up

22
When it comes to setting up a bearded dragon cage, it does not have to be expensive or costly. Though there are ready-made cages available in the market, it is still best if you know how to set up one for your pet. With only a minimum effort, you will be able to construct a home ideal for your pet. Based on the area available inside your home, you need to be guided on the things you need for your dragon.

NATIVE NATURAL HABITAT

One important thing you need to consider for your pet to be able to live a happy and healthy life is to provide it with a home that is identical to its natural habitat. The following should be considered when setting up an enclosure:
  • Bearded dragon basking activity – one part of a dragon's daily routine is to bask. This activity is very important as this helps your pet stay healthy and not be easily prone to diseases and illnesses.
  • Powerful temperatures – your pet is known to come from inland deserts of Australia, thus, it is important to simulate the same extreme temperature in the cage.
  • Sand burrowing – while basking under the sunlight, dragons tend to burrow the sand.

It is ideal to simulate the natural environment of your pet. It will easily adapt to its new environment. Make sure you do not place trees inside the cage because they might eat it. You can place sand and rocks for added beauty.

SIZE

Size is important. You have to be aware of the overall size of the cage. If you have an adult dragon as a pet, your enclosure should be approximately 36 by 12 by 18 inches. The bigger the cage is; the better it is for your pet. Your dragon will enjoy a spacious cage since it loves to run and play around. This is important if you want your dragon to be active and happy.

FEEDING

Design the cage in such a way that your pet will enjoy its meal time. To prevent food contamination, make sure to clean the cage regularly. Cleanliness is next to godliness. To avoid digestive illness such as parasitic infection, it is important that the home of your pet is clean. It is advised to use nontoxic sanitizer when cleaning your pet's cage.

LIGHTING and TEMPERATURE

The ideal temperature inside the cage should be 78 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit. UVB lights are recommended so that your bearded dragon's body will be sufficiently supplied with Vitamin D which is important in bone metabolism. Lighting up your pet's cage with incandescent lights is also a good idea. This can make your pet happy.

ACCESSORIES FOR THE CAGE

To further beautify your pet's abode, add accessories such as rocks and branches. Branches must be dry and rocks must be smooth to avoid pet injuries. Aside from its aesthetic value, rocks can be placed on the cooler side of the enclosure as your pet loves to hide during night time. You can include card board tubes, boxes, logs and sand for burrowing.

BREEDING PREPARATION

Once your pet reaches adulthood, it will be engaged in reproduction. To help your female dragon comfortable during this stage, you can put soft sand in the cage where she can lay her eggs. The environment must be quiet and silent.

I hope these simple guidelines will help you a lot. Having a bearded dragon for a pet requires responsibility. Take your time and effort in preparing its cage. Make sure you are mindful of its needs so that your beardie will be happy and enjoy your company.
