How do I Fix a Muffler on a 185 Hydro John Deere?
- 1). Park the lawnmower on a hard level surface.
- 2). Open the hood exposing the engine. On the front of the lawnmower frame are two nuts holding the hood in position. Remove the two nuts with a wrench and place the hood out of the working area.
- 3). Remove the four cap screws with a wrench from the air duct located directly above the muffler. Below the valve cover are two nuts, washers and cap screws that hold the brace that is welded to the muffler. Remove the nuts and slide out the muffler.
- 4). Slide off the old gasket from the exhaust port found in between the muffler and the engine. Slide the new gasket into place.
- 5). Slide the new muffler into position. Reinstall the two nuts, washers and cap screws. Reinstall the air duct with the four cap screws. Place the hood in position and install the two bolts and tighten with a wrench.
