How to Dance The Tick

23
    • 1). Face the mirror with your arms at your sides. Repeatedly flex and relax your arms in half-second intervals. This quick flex/relax movement is the "tick" of your dance. Ticks are very quick, but you need to practice quick muscle control over your limbs to tick effectively.

    • 2). Bend your arms to 90-degree angles while quickly flexing and relaxing your arms. Visualize your arms ticking each inch through the movement while you practice.

    • 3). Continue practicing your arm ticks until they look "clean" and precise. You want each tick to be distinct so an audience knows your exact dance style.

    • 4). Involve the legs in your ticking by performing the "Walk." Begin by ticking your arms; step forward while ticking your leg at the same rhythm of your arms. Continue ticking rhythmically with your arms and legs in concert. The Walk takes a lot of practice, but you need to master it if you want to be a decent ticker.

    • 5). Practice ticking your head. Slowly turn your head to the left and right as you tick. This movement can make your neck very sore since the neck muscles aren't usually under intense strain.

    • 6). Practice ticking your chest. Slowly puff your chest out at the tick rhythm, then slowly sink it back in. Repeat this motion until you become comfortable with it.

    • 7). Combine all parts of your body in a freestyle ticking routine. Begin with the Walk, then tick each part of your body individually. You can follow the Walk with head, arm or leg ticks; it is your dance routine so be as creative as you want.
