Holistic Stomach Cures
- Probiotics are friendly bacteria that can survive and live in your digestive system. They help the body to effectively digest the food eaten. This also ensures that there are enough good bacteria in the gut, so the bad bacteria--which are the ones that cause stomach problems like indigestion--don't have a chance to take over. Yogurt naturally has probiotics in it, so eating yogurt on a regular basis can ensure there are enough good bacteria. An acidophilus supplement added to the diet can do the same thing.
- Peppermint as a remedy for stomach ailments has been around for centuries. Drinking a cup of peppermint tea daily can relax and settle the entire digestive system. It also helps when taken for an upset stomach as it soothes the tummy quickly. Peppermint tea bags can be easily purchased, as can loose peppermint tea at most grocery stores.
- Ginger root is another home remedy that has been around and used for stomach ailments for hundreds of years. Ginger is good for an upset stomach, indigestion, constipation, diarrhea and gas. To make ginger root tea, grate a bit of fresh ginger root into a cup of boiling water. Allow the mixture to steep for 10 to 15 minutes and then strain out the pieces of ginger root before drinking. Drink up to 3 cups daily when suffering stomach problems.
- Chamomile tea can help to sooth an upset digestive system. It will relieve heartburn, indigestion and even colic. Put 1 tsp. of dried chamomile into a cup of boiling water then cover the cup. This will keep the active ingredients in the tea. Allow it to steep for 10 minutes and then strain out the chamomile. Drink 3 to 4 cups each day for stomach maintenance.
