How to Install a Radio in a 2003 Dodge Ram
- 1). Pull the top of the lower dash trim below the steering column towards you to release it from the dash. Remove the screw below the vent to the right of the stereo using a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the trim panel around the stereo off of the dashboard manually.
- 2). Unscrew the stereo from the dashboard using the Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the deck out, turn it around and unplug the wiring on the backside. Take the deck out of the truck.
- 3). Install the metal cage that comes with the aftermarket deck into the vehicle-specific dash kit using a flat head screwdriver. Set the vehicle-specific wiring harness and the harness that came with the aftermarket deck on a clean work surface. Strip 1/8 of an inch of shielding off the end of each wire on both harnesses using wire strippers.
- 4). Match up the colors on each harness and crimp them together using the blue butt connectors and the wire crimpers. Plug the new harness into the harness that was connected to the back of the stereo in Step 2 by hand. Run the other end of the harness through the middle of the vehicle-specific dash kit then mount the kit to the dashboard using the Phillips head screwdriver.
- 5). Plug the harness into the back of the aftermarket stereo and slide it into the dash kit until it clicks into the metal cage. Reinstall the trim panel onto the dashboard using the Phillips head screwdriver then push in the trim panel below the steering column.
