Outside Brick Projects for a Garden
- The four basic types of bricks are building, face, firebrick and pavers. Pavers are the most common brick and are used to enhance and build gardens. They are durable and hold up well when exposed to the elements. First you should create a rough outline of how you want your garden to look. You don't have to be a artist to do this task. Measure the space that you would like to utilize and imagine how you want the finished product to look. The surface from which you start should be level and if you don't own a level, they can be purchased at a reasonable price.
- You can build a wall, round garden, V-shaped garden. The ideas are endless. You will need a level surface from which to start. When using the level, you need to be able to see a small bubble in the center of the tool and this will let you that the surface is level. You can build a brick wall 2" high or 2' high and create the length as far as your property line. When using mortar, it is recommended to use type S due to its durability. Premixed mortar will save you time and is less messy.
Start laying bricks in the pattern that you like and place a thin layer of mortar in between and on top of the bricks. Continue this process until you have achieved your desired design. Do not place mortar on the final layer of brick.
you may also just place three bricks across and three on top and place objects such as plants and sculptures on top of the bricks. No mortar is needed for this project.
