How to Replace an Underhood Relay in a Dodge Ram

5
    • 1). Open the hood and disconnect the battery. Keep in mind, if you work on your Dodge Ram truck without disconnecting the battery, you run the risk of an accidental electrical surge that could cause you harm or costly damage to your vehicle.

    • 2). Locate the fuse and relay center next to the battery and gently remove its cover. Flip the fuse and relay center cover over and locate the fuse associated with your malfunctioning device on the fuse and relay diagram within.

    • 3). Unplug the cartridge-style relay and check the relay and center for corrosion or damage. Repair any area, as needed.

    • 4). Plug your replacement relay securely into the relay socket within the fuse and relay center housing. Remember, current running through a loose relay can cause the relay to overheat or the outer plastic casing and relay socket housing to melt, so be sure the relay is firmly seated.

    • 5). Pop the fuse and relay center cover back into place, reconnect the battery and test the malfunctioning device.
