How to Power Wash a Deck for Toxins
- 1). Hook up your garden hose to your spigot and lightly spray down the deck.
- 2). Scrub the entire deck with the brush to loosen surface dirt.
- 3). Rinse the deck using the garden hose and ensure that no surface debris remains.
- 4). Follow the directions on your particular power washer to hook it up and fill it with the deck cleaner.
- 5). Begin in the farthest inside corner of the deck. Slowly and gently press the nozzle on the power washer until you reach a sufficient pressure that you can control. Move the washer along the edge of the deck in a straight, even line. Release the nozzle when you reach the end of the first row and move back a bit for the next row, using a long, straight line to wash it as you did the first. Continue in this manner until the entire surface of the deck has been washed. Move from the outside in, so that you do not become trapped. Use long, even strokes to wash any stairs or railings, as well.
- 6). Allow the deck to dry for 24 hours before prepping and sealing it with safe products.
