How to Install an AC Unit
- 1). Install the external metal bracket in the back of the windowsill and secure with the screws provided, with sheet metal screws if attaching to a metal frame, or with wood screws for a wood frame or vinyl frame. Place a leveler on the bracket to make sure it is level. Unlock the window and raise it as high as you can.
- 2). Lift the air conditioner and place it in the open window on a tilt so that it can drain outside the window. Push the window down on top of the air conditioner. Pull out the accordion or extension panels on each side of the air conditioner unit until the panels fit snugly against each side of the window.
- 3). Secure each panel to the window sash with the screws provided using a drill or screwdriver. Pre-drill starter holes in the window sash if you have problems installing the screws. Install the angle brackets to the upper sash and secure them to each other with the screws provided to keep most of the air conditioner weight off the window.
- 4). Plug in the air conditioner directly to a reciprocal rather than an extension cord and turn on the conditioner to test. Fill in any gaps around the air conditioner and window with weather stripping, cork or foam to prevent air from entering or exiting the room.
