With deeper studies and researches in chemistry, man was able to produce new innovations to aid in achieving a more stress free life. Some of the newest productions are inclined with carbide productions that are being used as a form of jewelry, industrial tools, housing and building constructions and the like.  In Chemistry, we define "carbide" simply as a carbon compound combined with an element that has less electronegativity (the capacity of atoms to attract another atom/s towards itself).

Tungsten, lanthanum and calcium are some of the most common metals that are being used as a form of carbide to form Tungsten carbide, Lanthanum carbide and Calcium carbide. The electric furnace outline to practical chemistry was accompanied by a preparation of a lot of metallic carbides which was already previously known. Some of these include calcium carbide and tungsten carbide, which is now considered as of great importance in the industrial and commercial fields. The general formulae of the following compounds have been discovered and obtained by the chemist H. Moissan and these are as follows (N signifies an atom of the metal and C is of carbon): N 2 C = molybdenum; N 3 C = manganese, iron; NC = zirconium; N 4 C 3 = beryllium, aluminum; N 2 C 3 = uranium; N C 4 = chromium; N 3 C 2 = chromium; NC 2 = barium, calcium, strontium, lithium, thorium.

There are different kinds of carbide preparations which determine the type of product it will produce. These principal methods of

carbide preparation are classified as follows:

1.    The reduction of oxides in carbon compounds at high temperatures such as Barium, calcium, manganese, chromium and strontium.

2.    The direct union of elements at a high temperature such as Iron, lithium, tungsten and chromium.

3.    The reduction of carbonates along with magnesium in occurrence with carbon such as Lithium and calcium.

4.    The actions of metallic derivatives on acetylene such as potassium and sodium.
Metallic carbides are mostly crystalline solids. That is why this is being used as an alternative for silver and gold accessories and jewelries. A tungsten carbide round can serve as a perfect engagement or wedding ring because it not only has a perfect and smooth edge; it is also stylish and does not oxidize easily to form rust. Men just love using this kind of accessories because aside from rings, it can also be formed as carbide flats bracelet as well as a tungsten cuff links and bangles.  Calcium carbide on the other hand has a lot of industrial importance. Along with titanium carbide, calcium carbide is a perfect carbide cutting tools because of its sharp edges and it has a diamond-like form of hardness. Carbide cutting tools makes a smooth finish cuts that requires almost no sanding at all.

Industrial carbides such as carbide tipped wood turning chisels is an extremely hard grade tool but also gives comfort and enjoyment upon used.
