How to Light Oven Pilot Light on Non Electric Gas Stove
- 1). Turn off the gas line leading to the oven, or the gas line leading to the entire stove if there is not a specific valve for the oven gas. Ventilate the kitchen for a few hours to allow the buildup of gas in the area to dissipate. Open and remove the drawer below the oven and locate the oven heating element, which will be in the top of the space left by the drawer.
- 2). Locate the oven pilot light opening, which will be at either the front or rear end of the heating element. The pilot light opening will be a small hole protected by a metal cage. After you locate the pilot light, switch the gas on and hold the lit match or lighter to the pilot light until it lights.
- 3). Light the stovetop pilot lights if necessary, and turn on the oven for a few minutes to ensure that the gas is flowing smoothly and evenly throughout the heating elements. Turn off the oven and check to make sure that the pilot light is still burning strongly, then replace the oven drawer.
