How to Tether a Smartphone
Things You'll Need
Instructions
1Call your mobile service provider and ask to speak to a customer service representative. Ask about your smartphone's wireless plan and whether or not it includes Internet tethering services. If you have no wireless data plan, sign up for one through your wireless carrier. Be aware that data is substantially more expensive than traditional talk and text plans, and that you are still restricted by your data plan's limits (generally between 1GB and 5GB per month).
2
Set up your smartphone for Internet tethering. Each model of smartphone is slightly different and for certain ones you will have to download an application to enable tethering. Call your phone manufacturer's support line to learn how you can turn this feature on.
3
Make sure your computer is ready to be connected to the Internet. Turn the computer's (and the phone's) Bluetooth receiver on for tethering via Bluetooth, or simply connect your smartphone to the computer via the USB cord. If done correctly your computer should connect to the Internet nearly instantaneously.
