How do I Fix a Machine Drain on a Kenmore 110 Washer?
- 1). Press "stop" to clear the display on the panel. Unplug and pull the machine out so the drain hose can be accessed. Check the hose itself for kinks or leaks.
- 2). Check that the drain pipe is installed properly. It should fit securely, but loosely, into the standing pipe without being taped or otherwise secured. There needs to be an air gap for the pipe to drain properly.
- 3). Pull the drain hose out of the standing pipe and look down it for any blockage. Kenmore drain pipes have a form that holds them in a U shape. You may need to remove this form to look down the pipe.
- 4). Use a straightened coat hanger or a plumber's snake to dislodge any material from the drain pipe.
- 5). Take off the outer shell of the machine by removing the two screws on either side of the console, if the drain pipe itself seems to be clear. Some models have these screws in the back or under the decorative molding.
- 6). Flip the console back and unplug the wire connector. With a screwdriver, remove the wire clips in the cabinet top under the console. Tilt and slide the cabinet forward, then set it aside.
- 7). Locate the drain pump at the bottom front of the machine. Unsnap the clips holding it in place and pull it loose from the motor shaft. Loosen the wire clamps holding the two hoses in place with pliers, and slide the hoses off, freeing the pump.
- 8). Inspect the pump for blockages. If it is clear of obstructions but seems to be malfunctioning, purchase a new pump.
- 9). Slide the hoses onto the new pump's ports and tighten the wire clamps. Slide it onto the motor shaft and clip it in place. Slide the cabinet back onto the machine. Replace the spring clips in the top of the cabinet, reconnect the wire connector, then pull the console down and replace the screws.
