How to Create a Prayer Card

20
    • 1). Find Bible references that relate to prayer and may encourage readers' faith. Passages such as Matthew 7:7-8 are appropriate. This passage contains Jesus' admonition that persistent, heartfelt prayer prevails with God. It reads, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." Including verses such as this will enhance the prayer card visually as well as bring comfort to the reader.

    • 2). Determine the size the prayer card needs to be. This will primarily be dictated by the venue in which it will be placed. Will it be in a church bulletin? Will it be placed at an information counter alongside a box wherein it will be inserted? You will save yourself unneeded revisions if you will get these dimensions and incorporate them into the design process.

    • 3). Format the card to request the following information. Ask for the petitioner's name, two means by which you can contact them (usually by their phone number or email address), and create lines for them to fill in their prayer request. Also include the following question with a small space following it for an answer: "Can this prayer request be shared in a public worship service or prayer meeting?" This will give the person confidence that their personal business will not be shared publicly if they don't want it to be. Some petitioners will want the information to remain private. If you ask this question you can avoid potential embarrassment for the petitioner and ministers and prayer team members and guard against the potential for hurt feelings.

    • 4). Design the card in a program such as Microsoft Word or Publisher. This will allow you to format and size the card properly. You will also be be able to make alterations at a later date. It is best to use very legible fonts and to make the point size of the text no smaller than 11 point. Use fonts that are easy to read. Print the card on cardstock paper in the color of your choice. Cardstock paper will hold up longer and make a more professional impression.
