  By just a glance, flowers convey a person's feelings toward you. The flowers that mean hope may be determined by both the type and the color of the flower. However, not only flowers have meanings. A leaf from the rose or a pine from a tree may also carry a message you want to hear.
  
  

Iris

• The iris symbolizes hope, and is the emblem of both France and Florence, Italy. It has also spawned the fleur-de-lis, based on the blade-shaped foliage and graceful curls of the flower. The name of the flower, Iris, derives from the Greek word for rainbow, given because of the different color varieties available. The flower grew in Mary Gardens, where it is said that the leaf shapes were an example of the sorrows that "pierced her heart."
  
  

Rose Leaf and Pine

• When a person gives you a rose leaf it symbolizes "you may hope." The rose leaf may be handed to you or come in a card, but the meaning is clear. If the leaf is attached to a rose, then the color of the rose determines the meaning of the flower. A gift of pine from another indicates hope. Pine leaves are found on the trees used for Christmas.
  
  

Tulip

• A yellow tulip indicates "hopeless love." This distinct bright yellow flower originates from Persia and Turkey, where it was worn on the turban. When the Europeans transported the flower back home, they called the flower by the Persian name for turban. This yellow flower has a checkered history, as it once became a viable commodity and almost caused the financial collapse of Netherlands in the 17th century.
