How to Identify and Care for an Adorn Mum
- 1). Identify the adorn mum by its medium, evergreen leaves and pink flowers. The plant is rounded in shape and is very flashy, producing numerous flowers closely clumped together. The leaves have ragged edges and have three sections.
- 2). Plant the adorn mum in slightly acidic soil. The soil can be anything from sandy loam to clay loam. The pH needs to be in the range of 5.5 to 6.5. This plant enjoys part sun to full sun, but if it is in a place that offers it at least six hours of continuous sun, it will produce more flowers.
- 3). Water the mum at least once weekly, giving it an inch of water. The soil should stay moist between waterings, but should not be soggy. A deep watering will encourage root growth and a stronger plant overall.
- 4). Fertilize the adorn mum with a water-soluble, quick release fertilizer every 2 weeks. You can also use an organic fertilizer such as fish emulsion. If you use an organic fertilizer, be sure to read the instructions on the package, as different brands may be of different strengths.
- 5). Prune the adorn mum by pinching the stem tips when the plant is young. Pinching encourages branching. Throughout the growing season, remover dead or decaying plant matter. This also provides airflow, which helps to keep disease at bay.
