How to Remove the Ignition Switch From a 2000 Chevy
- 1). Open up the hood and disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. Allow the Chevy to sit for at least 15 minutes prior to moving forward. Remove the knee panel below the steering column using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket, then remove the steering column cover with the Phillips head screwdriver.
- 2). Locate the fuse block on the left side of the dashboard. Remove the harness on the backside of the switch panel (the one closest to you at the very top of the panel). Unplug the harness to the ignition switch using a pair of flat-head screwdrivers to free the plug.
- 3). Place the key in the ignition and turn it to the "Start" position. Locate the hold in the top of the ignition switch. Push a screwdriver down the hole and then pull the key and cylinder away from the switch.
