Young & Restless Celebrates the One-Year Death of Katherine Chancellor

17

So much has happened in Genoa City since Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) died: Nikki followed Katherine's advice and tracked down her son, Dylan, never expecting that it would bring Ian Ward back into her life. Devon inherited a ton of money, but as the saying goes, it hasn't bought him happiness. Jack has moved on with his life, now dating Kelly since Phyllis is still in a coma. Victoria hired Mariah to try to learn Sharon's deep, dark secret.

Billy cheated on Victoria, so she is divorcing him -- and doesn't know who the father of her baby is. And Colin is back in Jill's life -- and the two of them are perpetrating insurance fraud with the necklace Jill inherited.

But even as all these events took place, Katherine has been much missed. Nikki goes to the park to talk to Katherine at the plaque bearing her name, and numerous other Genoa City residents make it a habit to visit the park, as well.

Coming up on the one-year anniversary of Katherine's passing, the CBS soap will mark the event with a ceremony in Chancellor Park. Returning for two-day episodes are Tricia Cast (Nina) and Michael Fairman (Murphy).

According to TV Guide, the memorial service was an idea of Katherine's before her demise and the information is provided to Jill in a letter that arrives on August 13. It will also be the key to the music box mystery. Murphy also receives a letter requesting his return to Genoa City.

Also according to TV Guide, Nina flies in from Los Angeles and learns about Cricket's unhappiness with Paul's discovering that he already has a son -- Dylan -- so he may not want to have a child with her.

And Nikki, who has been lovingly eying booze bottles the last week, will finally give in to the urge.

The latter should make Melody Thomas Scott, who plays Nikki, happy. She told me in a recent interview, "I've always wanted her to go stark-raving mad in a rubber room. That is one of the few things that hasn't happened yet." So being a drunk again should be fun for her to play.
