How to Install a Heating Element in a Kenmore Dryer
- 1). Unplug your Kenmore dryer from its power source. Make sure that your dryer is completely disconnected from all sources of electricity before attempting to repair it.
- 2). Shine a flashlight into the space above the dryer's bottom front access panel. Look for two metal clips, positioned about 4 inches from either side of the panel.
- 3). Use a putty knife or flathead screwdriver to put pressure on the metal clips until they release. With the clips released, pull off the entire bottom front access panel. Set the panel aside until you are ready to put it back on your Kenmore dryer.
- 4). Look into the back of your Kenmore dryer to locate the heating element housing and heat shield. Located on the right side of the dryer, the heating element housing looks like a rectangular metal box.
- 5). Remove the screw at the bottom of the heat shield to reveal the heating element.
- 6). Disconnect the two red wires leading away from the heating element.
- 7). Take out the screw that is located behind the red wires you removed. This screw holds the heating element in place; once removed, the element will slide out.
- 8). Examine your heating element for signs of damage. If you find a break or crack in the element, replacing the element will probably solve your dryer's problem. If you do not find a break in the element, the dryer's problem lies elsewhere.
- 9). Slide the new heating element into the heating element housing. Replace the screw that holds the element in place. Reconnect the two red wires to the heating element.

Put the heat shield back in front of the heating element housing. Screw the heat shield in to secure it in place. - 11
