How to Set Up Queen-Size Bed Rails
- 1). Clear an area on your floor large enough to accommodate the bed rails. Standard size for a queen mattress is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long.
- 2). Set the two rails with foot posts along the two long sides of the cleared space, approximately 5 feet apart. Lay the third rail -- the one without foot posts or a 90-degree bend -- in between them, running parallel to, and equidistant from, both.
- 3). Unfold the head and foot rails from the two exterior rails. They should fold open on a hinge, much like a pocket knife.
- 4). Go to the head rail of the bed. Where the rails overlap, you will see one or more holes. Adjust the rail position until all holes overlap, then slide one bolt -- they should come with the rail kit -- through each hole. Twist a nut onto each bolt, using the screwdriver and/or pliers if necessary. For the center hole, include the middle rail by positioning its end hole in alignment with those of the head rails.
- 5). Repeat step four at the foot rail.
- 6). Place the box springs and top mattress of your queen bed on the rails.
