How to Replace a Smooth-Top Burner on a Kenmore Range
- 1). Turn off the range's power supply at your service panel.
- 2). Open the oven door and locate the screws securing the main top to the range. The screws are located under the front lip of the main top.
- 3). Close the oven door. Lift the main top and secure it in an elevated position with a sturdy object.
- 4). Remove the screws securing the cross brace that holds the burner against the underside of the main top.
- 5). Make a mark on the cross brace beside the slots in which the burner bracket tabs are inserted. Remove the burners by squeezing the bracket tabs with pliers.
- 6). Remove the screws securing the brackets to the underside of the faulty burner. Install the brackets on the new burner. Before removing the brackets, note the number slot in which the brackets are installed, then install them in the same slot on the new burner.
- 7). Transfer the wires from the old burner to the new burner, one at a time.
- 8). Snap the new burner into the cross brace, ensuring that the tabs are inserted into the appropriate slots.
- 9). Secure the burner brace to the underside of the range using the screws that were removed.

Lower the main top, then secure it using the screws. - 11
Turn the range breaker back on to restore power to the range.
