Window Decorating Ideas
- Decorating a window simply does not mean plainly. A simple window treatment can be one sheer panel of lace, a roman blind or a cafe curtain. Try hanging a lace panel from an inexpensive pressure-mounted curtain rod, then pulling it to one side and tying it with a piece of ribbon. A roman blind in a bright color can liven up a room, especially when gathered halfway up. Cafe curtains, which hang from the center of the window down, provide privacy while allowing light to enter the room through the top of the curtain.
- For a designer look, layer your window treatments. Start with a shade, blinds or a simple curtain panel. Then add heavy, lavish drapes hung from a sturdy curtain rod. Drapes can be made or purchased in many different styles and colors, from red velvet to black silk to silver linen. Try choosing fabrics in different colors and then layering them for a unique, exotic look.
- Finally, consider attaching molding around your windows to set them apart from the surrounding walls. A bright white "frame" made from ceiling molding is a beautiful way to highlight your windows and looks great when paired with a roman shade or bamboo blinds, especially if the walls are a contrasting, darker color. If your window is narrow, consider adding shutters to either side of the window. This gives the illusion of a wider window and adds great architectural interest to any room.
