Locating a Corporate Employer's Identification Number

• 1). Call the human resources or payroll department, which will have a corporation's identification number. Provide your name, address, Social Security number and the name of the department where you work. The departmental representative will provide you with the company's corporate identification number.
  
  
• 2). View your pay stub or W-2, which will contain the corporation's identification number. Locate a previous tax return, if you are unable to find a pay stub or W-2. If you have not switched employers, your previous tax return will contain the company's identification number.
  
  
• 3). Search the company's intranet or view an annual report. Every corporation must publish the company's identification number on its annual report for identification purposes. • 1). Call the IRS business and specialty tax line at 800-829-4933. The service is available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., local time. Provide the name and location of the business and the name, address and Social Security number used when the company acquired its identification number. The IRS assistor provides the corporate identification number at the conclusion of the telephone session.
  
  
• 2). View bank documents, such as a bank statement, to determine your corporation's identification number. Contact the financial institution where the company does its banking, if you cannot locate written correspondence from your corporation's bank. Financial institutions put a corporation's identification number on all written documents as a way to easily identify the business.
  
  
• 3). Locate the IRS notification letter you received when you acquired the corporation's identification number. The IRS issues a confirmation letter to every business that acquires an identification number. The letter serves as confirmation that the IRS issued an identification number to your corporation.
  
  
• 4). Log on to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) website and use its Edgar database to locate your corporation's identification number. Provide the company name or ticker symbol and the state of incorporation. This type of search will not work if your company is not registered with the SEC.
