Here are some helpful ideas on Step Training for Calves

24
We all want great calf muscles, but nature if very often kinder to some of us than others, right? Many times we have seen athletes at the top level of professional bodybuilding, with contest-ready 22-inch biceps and thighs that make the ground shake when they walk – all stacked upon a pair of funny looking twig calves which are dwarfed by the untrained calves of those in the audience. It's a cruel irony of life that the athletes blessed with the best muscle building genetics and widest frames on earth also suffer from mortal sub-par calves much of the time, particularly among African-American bodybuilders.

Site injections work wonders for top bodybuilders. Sure, the ethics of using such measures can be debated. Is it cheating? Well, since everyone on that stage is using some sort of performance enhancing drugs just to reach that level, it's a little tough to pull out the cheating card. More likely, can we define small site injections are cheating? They are commonly used by the dozens, and most of the time they are unnoticeable. It's only when they are obnoxious and add three inches to a bodybuilder's arms for a single show that everyone takes notice – and laughs!

The health ramifications of using site oil injections to improve the appearance of the calf muscles cannot be denied. It's dangerous. Unless you are a top-tier bodybuilder who won't be able to pay his mortgage without the assistance of injections, you should steer clear of them. Instead, you should work to improve your calf muscle of course, while at the same time efforting to accentuate your positive characteristics. In other words, don't let your quads get too bit and your calves will not appear to be so small!

Now, let's get to the calf training. Sure, you have probably already tried most of the standard techniques – more weight, more repetitions, more angles of approach with various exercises. What you may not have tried is the use of steps to force your calves to stretch beyond standard lifting range of motion – and by doing so with weight. Functional step training for calves might just be your answer!

Using calf step training is simple. Pick up a dumbbell in your right hand and walk up the steps. Then walk down. Repeat with the left hand. Then, take a quick 3 minute rest, and do it again with a heavier dumbbell. Continue until your calves are completely toasted, your quads are burning, you can't hold the weight anymore, and you're ready for a protein shake because you know it's time to grow!

Watch out for other pitfalls as well. If you are keeping your body weight low, then your calves can't grow. If you are dieting or conducting hours of cardio each week, it's going to be impossible to build some new muscle because you just don't have that caloric surplus required for new muscle synthesis to occur. If this is the case, it's time to abandon that diet for a few months, pile some food on your plate, and add some mass all over – the calves will take notice and grow!
