How to Change a Starter on a Sears Riding Mower With a Briggs & Stratton 16 HP Engine
- 1). Open the hood and locate the starter bolted on the right side of the engine.
- 2). Unscrew the nut holding the red cable onto the side of the starter with the proper sized wrench.
- 3). Remove the electrical cord tab inserted into the base of the starter with your fingers by squeezing and pulling.
- 4). Unscrew the two bolts holding the starter onto the side of the Briggs & Stratton engine block with the correct sized wrench.
- 5). Pull the old starter off and push the new starter into place.
- 6). Tighten the two bolts through the starter mounting holes with the proper sized wrench.
- 7). Push the electrical connector cord into the plug on the base of the new starter.
- 8). Place the red cable on the bolt protruding from the side of the new starter. Tighten the nut onto the bolt to secure the red cable with the proper sized wrench.
