For the most part, a Spanish diet is made from vegetables and grains with meat only eaten in moderation. This is similar to the Mediterranean diet that we all hear about, dishes rich in fruits and vegetables allowing them to be low in saturated fats. There were a number of different cultures that brought different food items to Spain which included Romans, Jews, Arabs and Moors. The Spanish islands are a different story in their cuisine.

The Spanish culture is made up from various other cultures making it unique in Europe. Even though Spain has all the modern mod cons there are still little villages that time has forgot. If you visit one of these little places bring all that you need with you. The other thing that you need to get used to is the siesta which is an afternoon nap. Just when you want to do something everyone is asleep. If it's an evening stroll you would like before your evening meal, it's called a paseo. Spain's taste in music varies from one place to the next, as does their cuisine. It's all based on where you are: there are several varieties of folk music but the best known is the flamenco.

The astounding architecture that was left behind by each proceeding culture will simply amaze you. Counted among these are cathedrals and monuments that have influenced modern day architecture. When terms like heritage and artistic relevance come to mind, you think of Italy but Spain is a close second which is exemplified by the number of world heritage sites in Spain as designated by UNESCO.
