How to Sew Home Decor
- 1). Decide on the size of the pillow and add 1 inch to the measurement. For example, if the desired size is 12 inches by 12 inches, the measurement would be 13 inches by 13 inches.
- 2). Cut two pieces of material to the decided measurement.
- 3). Lay the two pieces of material so the right sides are facing. Be sure the edges are aligned on all sides; pin together.
- 4). Sew a 1-inch seam around the project, leaving a 1- to 2-inch opening at one corner.
- 5). Stuff the pillow through the opening. Fill until the material feels tight, but not stretched.
- 6). Close the opening in the pillow by pushing the material inside and sewing closed by hand.
- 1). Decide on the desired size of the throw and add 2 inches to the measurement. For example, if you desire a 20-inch-by-15-inch throw, then purchase a 22-inch-by-17-inch piece of material.
- 2). Fold a 2-inch seam all the way around the material and pin in place right at the fold.
- 3). Measure lace or trim to fit around the project. Lay the trim at the folded edge of the project and pin in place.
- 4). Fold 1 inch of the 2-inch seam back over the edge of the lace or trim. This will cover the inside edge of the trim and create a 1-inch total seam.
- 5). Sew down the seam, making sure to catch the edge of the trim.
