How Can I Kill Moss on a Tile Roof?
- 1). Find and buy a product that kills moss. Look for the least toxic product to protect other plants growing around your house. Commercial products are effective as well as oxygen bleach, which must be combined with water. Do not use chlorine bleach as it can change the color of your roof.
- 2). Apply the product or bleach using a brush attached to a pole in the spring or the fall. Scrub down the roof with the brush, wiping away the moss' root system. Do not brush upwards, as you may damage your tiles.
- 3). Use a pressure sprayer to remove the rest of the dead moss from the roof once the product has killed it. Stand on the top of the roof and point the sprayer downward to prevent water from getting up into the tile and accumulating. Make sure you are safe and secure on the roof before using the sprayer.
- 4). Nail down zinc strips in intervals across the roof to stop moss from growing back.
