Taking care of your eyes after cataract surgery

If you have undergone an eye cataract surgery, post care is very essential to avoid any difficulties. Good care will help your wound heal at a rapid speed too.

The eye cataract surgery is one of the most familiar operations done for majority of the people across the globe. Though the advancement of technology and high end equipments are available for eye surgery, it is always good to not neglect the after surgery necessities.

The doctors will always help you in any means, however your own interest is required the most to heal the wound fast. Your eye surgeon will prescribe you an eye drop which needs to be put on a regular basis and on a prescribed time. This will help you to prevent infections and will also control the eye pressure.

If your eyes are sensitive then you might be prone to allergy and infection. So it is always good to wear a shade for some days after the surgery. This will protect your eyes from bright lights and dust which might lead to itching, rubbing or pressing. Using fingers or hands to rub or press may worsen the situation and you might have to go back to your doctor.

If you experience discharge from the corners of your eyes, you can take a warm clean cloth to wipe the corners. You need to be very careful, not giving any extra pressure; you should gently wipe the water.

After your operation you need to avoid splashing waters on your face for the first few weeks. Always use a wet soft towel to wipe your face. It is also good to avoid eye make up after the operation till the time it is completely healed.

Avoid driving during night time as bright lights might cause harm to your eyes. As prescribed by the doctors apply ointment and eye drops. However there are special precautions that need to be taken care of while applying eye ointment or drops.

When you are applying eye drops make sure that you wash your hands and be very careful so that the nozzle of the bottle does not touch your eye.

Avoid vigorous activities like gardening, swimming and other outdoor sports. You can watch television as long as you are comfortable.

After your surgery you might feel that there's something inside your eye, or feel a little pain while looking at the bright light. These are normal after a cataract surgery.

If you are experiencing severe pain or constant discharge you should immediately contact your eye surgeon.
