Traditional dishwashers, the 24-inch standard version, fit between cabinets located under a countertop. Compact dishwashers fit into smaller spaces because they measure only 18 inches in width. • GE dishwashers vary based on whether they are built-in or portable and whether the controls are in front or on top. Possible wash cycles include antibacterial, pots and pans, deep clean and speed cycle. • Although some GE dishwashers cost less than $400 as of July 2011, others cost more than $1,300. The price depends in part on the color or finish. Options include black, silver, white, bisque, stainless steel, metallic and custom panels.
