How to Adjust the Drum Brakes on a 1984 Mitsubishi Cordia
- 1). Park the vehicle on a level surface. Place wheel chocks around both front wheels.
- 2). Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels with a lug wrench. Jack up the back of the vehicle and place jack stands under the axles. Finish removing the lug nuts. Remove the wheels.
- 3). Remove the rubber plug on the back of the brake drum by gripping it tightly and pulling straight out.
- 4). Insert a brake adjustment tool into the newly created hole. Push in on the tool and move the sprocket up or down, one position at a time. Moving the tool up will tighten the brakes slightly, moving it down will loosen them.
- 5). Apply pressure to the brake pedal. Spin the tire while the brakes are being applied by giving it a light push with one hand. This will require two people. The tire should spin one full rotation. If it spins more or less than that, relieve the pressure on the brake pedal and adjust it again. Continue until the brakes are properly adjusted.
- 6). Replace the wheels and tighten the lug nuts with the lug wrench until the wheel begins turning freely. Remove the jack stands and lower the Cordia. Finish tightening the lug nuts with a lug wrench.
