What Is the Difference Between Regular Comforters & Waterbed Comforters?

32

    Differences in Sizes

    • Differences in the sizes of water bed mattresses lead to the necessity of specially-designed water bed comforters. A standard queen bed, for example, measures 60 x 80 inches. A queen size water bed, on the other hand, measures 60 x 84 inches, which means that, in many instances, a standard queen size comforter may be too short for a queen size water bed. King size water beds measure 72 x 84 inches while a standard king measures 76 x 80 inches and a single size water bed measures 48 x 84 inches, making it substantially larger than the 38 x 75-inch standard twin.

    Water Bed Frames

    • Water bed frames are designed so that the mattress is situated inside the bed frame instead of on top of the frame where the sides of the mattress show. While the comforters for standard beds are designed to cover the sides of the mattress and box springs, comforters for water beds are often designed so that the sides of the water bed frame are still visible. So despite the fact that water bed mattresses run slightly larger than standard mattresses, water bed comforters may actually be slightly less wide than comforters for standard beds of the same size.

    Water Bed Comforter Fabrics

    • Like regular comforters, water bed comforters come in a variety of styles, patterns and fabrics, making integrating your water bed into any type of room décor possible. The same standard materials you might find in regular comforters, including cotton, polyester, satin and flannel, may be used to make water bed comforters as well.

How to Fit a Water Bed Comforter

    • Water bed comforters can be fitted to a water bed mattress in a couple of different ways. If the comforter is only wide enough to fit across the mattress, or if you don't mind covering the sides of the bed frame, you can simply lay a water bed comforter across the mattress and let the edges hang off the sides. If you prefer to keep the water bed looking neat and well fitted, you can also tuck the sides of the comforter in at the sides and bottom between the mattress and the frame.
