How to Animate Graphics for a Web Page
- 1). Decide what you want your animated graphic to look like. It can be simple shapes, or it can be based on a series of photos you load.
- 2). Go to the GIMP site and download the latest stable release of GIMP. Then install it to your computer.
- 3). Start the GIMP program. Select "File" and click "New." In the dialog that opens, make the width and height in pixels that you want for your animated GIF. Usually animated GIFs are quite small to keep them from slowing down the page loading. Make the resolution 72 pixels per inch, the background "Transparent" and click "OK.
- 4). Go to the "Layers" panel and chose one of the "Selection" tools (such as the ""Elliptical" tool) and use it to draw a selection on the canvas. Select the "Paintbucket"" tool from the toolbar and use it to fill the selection with a color of your choice.
- 5). Click on the "Duplicate" icon under the "Layers" panel nine times to create a total of 10 layers.
- 6). Select the "Move" tool from the toolbar and use it to place each circle in a different location on its particular layer. You want to create a line of motion.
- 7). Select "File" and click "Save." In the dialog that opens name your file and select "GIF as the file type. Click "Save." In the next dialog select "Make Animation" and click "OK." Another dialog will open. Select the duration you want for the frames of the animation. Then for the "Disposal" method choose "Replace" and click "Export." Your animated graphic is now ready to be used.
